  James V. Kimsey has served as Chairman, CEO and President of America Online, Inc. (formerly Quantum Computer Services) since he founded it in 1985. America Online, Inc. is the world's leader in interactive services and content.

  Over the past 25 years, Mr. Kimsey has founded and served on the boards of a number of successful businesses in the Washington, D.C. area in a variety of disciplines including financial services, information technology, real estate development, and restaurants. In 1994, he was named Business Leader of the Year by Washingtonian magazine. In 1998, he received KPMG Peat Marwick's High Tech Entrepreneur Award, the American Academy of Achievement's Golden Plate Award, the President's Medal from St. John's College High School, Washington, DC, and the first annual "I Have A Dream" award from the "I Have A Dream" Foundation.

  A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Mr. Kimsey graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and studied at Georgetown University on an honors scholarship. He served in the United States Army as an airborne ranger, rising to the rank of Major. As a combat leader, he received various awards for valor and service during a tour in the Dominican Republic and two tours in Vietnam. During his first tour in Vietnam, he instituted an orphanage, which he has supported for the last three decades. Mr. Kimsey continues an active involvement in national security issues through his participation on the Joint Special Operations Forces Institute Advisory Board.

  Mr. Kimsey is a member of the Board of Directors of Capital One Financial Corporation, Capital One Bank, and EduCap Inc. Advisory Boards of: Batterson Venture Partners, Carousel Capital, Lafayette Equity Fund. A consultant to Nanophase Technologies Corporation.

  Mr. Kimsey is active on a number of non profit boards as well. They include Innisfree, a life?sharing community for adults with mental disabilities; National Stroke Association; Big Brothers of the National Capital Area; Metropolitan Washington affiliate of the USO; National Symphony Orchestra; Campaign to Rebuild Education in Washington; National Chamber Foundation of the US Chamber of Commerce; Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, including Chairman of their Corporate Council; Virginia Film Foundation; Washington Scholarship Fund; Paul Berry Academic Scholarship Fdn.; Center for Strategic and International Studies; Children's Scholarship Fund; Georgetown University; Northern Virginia Technology Council's Senior Advisory Board; and the CEO America Foundation Advisory Board. Mr. Kimsey also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Capital Children's Museum; The Washington Opera; and Meridian International Center, whose mission is the promotion of international understanding through the exchange of people, ideas and the arts. Boards with an international emphasis are The Atlantic Council of the United States, a leader in the foreign policy community; The Jamestown Foundation, an organization that serves U.S. national interests by closely monitoring the political, economic and security trends in the former Soviet Union; and Refugees International, a humanitarian advocacy organization on behalf of refugees and displaced people.

  He is also a member of the Georgetown University Library Advisory Council; the President's Cabinet of Gonzaga College High School; the Madison Council of the Library of Congress; Association of Graduates of the U.S. Military Academy; the Council on Foreign Relations; the Foreign Policy Association; Business Executives for National Security and their Tail?to?Tooth Commission; the Council for the United States and Italy; Smithsonian Washington Council; Washington Roundtable; and the Williams '98 Transition Team.
